Here we go! I've signed on to be one of 10 "Celebrity" dancers at Dancing with the Stars of Mentoring 2020. Proceeds from the event go to help MENTOR Rhode Island expand opportunities for youth to connect with mentors. This is such a great cause, folks!
I spent lots of years on the TV news anchor desk, but have never put myself on the line like this before. My job is to team up with a dancing pro, learn a ballroom dance, rehearse to the point of minimizing embarrassment, and perform for a live audience of 500-plus people (April 9th at Rhodes on the Pawtuxet in Cranston). Yikes! What I'm asking you to do is donate, in the name of your kids, or grandchildren or a person in your life who's benefited from having the love support, and encouragement they need to succeed. That's what Mentor RI is in the business of doing. These are truly wonderful people, and they're changing lives.
You may not be able to help me outperform any of the other dancers to take the judges' award (trust me)...but every dollar you give equals a vote for that dancer. That means the coveted Peoples' Choice Award is up for grabs. So vote early and often! Let's do this for the kids - and the grandmas!
