Empower a Child, Transform a Community: Join the Mentoring Movement Today!
We believe every child is one caring adult relationship away from being a success story. Research tells us that one in three young people do not have access to a mentor in their lives. Mentoring is a social justice issue. Children from under-resourced backgrounds do not have the same access to positive adult relationships as their more affluent peers. We know that the quality of our relationships directly impacts the quality of our lives. With the quality of the RI education system ranking among the last in New England, the odds are stacked against our kids. Furthermore, children also get stuck in the inter-generational cycle of poverty.
A child cannot be what they cannot see. This is why students from inner-city schools often say they want to be teachers or, if they have access to healthcare, pediatricians—they are often the only college-educated people they know.
Join the mentoring movement. With your generosity, together we can build a stronger community, centered on positive relationships for kids. MENTOR Rhode Island works collaboratively with schools and youth development organizations across the state to expand relationship-centric support for young people to address inequity. We provide our mentors with critical training such as Youth Mental Health First Aid. Our mentees learn how to practice nonviolence, gain job readiness skills, and build confidence through meaningful relationships with caring adults. Your investment is a critical part of our mission to ensure that no young person in RI grows up without a network of caring adults in their lives.
