I am an only child, so at an early age my mom wanted to make sure that I was involved in some activity where I could interact with other children. At the age of 4, she signed me up for dance lessons. Over the years dance became much more than an activity to me…it became my passion. My classmates and teachers became a family to me, and the studio was my home away from home. It was a place where I felt safe and could be myself. Not only did I learn steps, but I learned how to work in teams and individually I gained confidence. My instructors challenged me and pushed me to be the best I could be…they believed in me. I was truly blessed to be surrounded by an incredible group of people who mentored me.

Fast forwarding to my adult life, I still dance as a part time dance instructor. Not only do I get to teach children how to dance, but I strive to be a positive influence in their lives. As a teacher, there is nothing more rewarding to me then when a student or their parents say, “thank you for being a positive role model and mentor”. I also love to see when the students become the teachers, as many of my students are now instructors themselves.

I now have two daughters who also dance and play sports. My wish for them is that they have the same positive experiences I had growing up and are surrounded by positive adult role models.

I am beyond honored and thrilled to have the opportunity to use my passion of dance to give back to the community. I am excited to learn something new and I’m ready for the challenge (I’ve never done ballroom dancing). Please consider donating to help me reach my goal for Mentor Rhode Island. It’s not for me…it’s for the children and their future.
