Think about YOUR childhood and adolescence. Did you every feel lonely, or vulnerable? Maybe you lost a parent, or your best friend moved away, or you started a new school. Or maybe you felt vulnerable just navigating the transition to young adulthood. In ninth grade, I opted into a local mentorship program through my high school in Massachusetts. At the time I didn't have many friends and had extremely low self-esteem. I was sure that meeting a person who had survived high school and came out the other side would bring me some comfort. The mentor I was assigned to ended up dropping out of the program without warning and given how fragile I was at the time, this was pretty devastating. It is for this reason I have chosen to become a mentor through MENTOR Rhode Island: to serve as a solid, consistent confidant, cheerleader, and friend to a middle schooler.
MENTOR Rhode Island is a non-profit and can only do the incredible work they do through the support of donors like YOU!
I will be working with a professional ballroom dancer for 10 weeks in preparation for the fundraising event of the year: A "Dancing With the Stars" style ballroom competition held in March. I am after the coveted People's Choice award--given to the dancer with the most votes. $1 = 1 vote, so vote EARLY and vote OFTEN! If you want to see me win it all, donate big!
